Opening band: Desperate Electric
Dance to the bodacious grooves of Helena’s favorite synth-punk-disco band, and pick up a copy of their hot new debut album.
A Hard Hugs performance unleashes the full force, certainly a force of musical good, of organically created pulsating dance beats, retro synth moods, music that is absolutely dripping with in-the-pocket rhythmic goodness and pop hook. The layered vocals and frequent guitar heroics create a dark yet up-lifting feel.
You may know Hard Hugs from Jester’s, or from their spectacular performance on The Myrna Soundstage. Hard Hugs—Lenny Eckhardt (Synths, Guitar, Vocals), Regan Clancy (Vocals, Bass), Jon Anderson (Drums, Vocals), and Joshua Loveland (Synths, Percussion, Vocals)— is a creative collision of four musicians working in different musical languages—from quiet singer/songwriter, to brash rocker, to retro-futuristic synthwave. Together they produce a dance-music experience that is spacious and textured, repetitious enough to be fun, yet also full of surprises. Also enjoyably listenable – textured party music with a dose of emotional catharsis, a side dish of loveliness, and “something to yell about.”
“This is music to listen to while navigating a two lane road through the mountains of western Montana with the windows down. I can’t wait to hear their first full album release and see them perform at The Myrna Loy.” – Greg Hayes
