‘Ice Pact’ – of Intimate Immensity brings more than 30 small and large watercolors of gigantic vistas from the wild peaks of Montana’s glaciers to a comfortable indoor setting at the Jailhouse Gallery of the Myrna Loy.
Leah began this watercolor series of glaciers at her dining table with her family in helpless response to the early confusion in the first days of the 2020 pandemic lockdown. Impatient with cabin fever, she wondered what it would take for humans to survive and what legacy they would leave on Earth’s history.
She arm-chair traveled via Google Maps and found images of this planet’s rarely visited places oddly helpful and has agreed to share with us her findings.
Deftly dancing between the micro- and macro-landscapes, Cupino explores the scale of her interior thoughts via clever titles and emotion-filled abstractions. The glaciers offer us not just their ancient pure meltwater but also their wisdom: the patience of a long-view, lessons in selflessness, and an example of the vital balance of give and take.
