The Myrna Loy celebrates Montana Native American Heritage Day with a collection of moving and impactful short films by and about Indigenous peoples. This year’s slate has some exciting new films premiering at The Myrna, including:

Bring Them Home – A soul-stirring and tradition-oriented documentary about Montana’s Blackfeet tribe as they seek to reinstate a wild buffalo herd back to their ancestral land.

Ancestral Threads – The film follows Joleen Mitton on her mission to use fashion as medicine for Vancouver’s Indigenous community. A former fashion model, Joleen is now a community leader and founder of Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week.

Iniskim – Shot on the real-life Blackfeet buffalo drive and inspired by a true story, Iniskim follows a young woman’s journey from trauma to recovery. By reconnecting with the ancient power of the buffalo, the timeless landscape of her ancestors, and the wisdom of her culture, her life in changed forever.

Through the Storm – The film follows the 2023 season of the Red Lake Nation (Ojibwe) high school football team. Despite dwindling interest and a two-decade-long losing record, a determined coach and group of young athletes fight to keep their football program alive.

Our Grandmother the Inlet – A hybrid documentary film that delves into the lives of Kayah George, a young Indigenous woman, and her grandmother Ta7a, the daughter of the renowned Chief Dan George. Delving into their ancestral lineage, the film takes us on a poignant journey as it highlights the significance of Kayah’s deep connection to water, revered in the Tsleil-Waututh Nation as their oldest grandmother and the birthplace of creation.

Native Ball – An honest, emotional and uplifting portrait of Blackfeet athlete, Malia Kipp, whose success on and off the basketball court earned her the title of warrior.
