We wrapped up our season with a fantastic professional development experience. Julia Proctor, founder of Clown Gym in New York City, visited Helena to train us in the art of clowning. Our group was smaller than anticipated due to Covid cases, but we were mighty!
Julia comes from an impressive training background, having worked with clown masters from Philippe Gaulier in France to apprenticing with Chris Bayes in New York. She currently teaches at NYU and Pace University.
She pushed us to connect with our most authentic selves, through a series of brilliantly exposing exercises. It was delightful to see each member of the group find moments of surprise, connection, and joy in their failures and successes.
Teaching artists who attended the training work for The Myrna Loy, Grandstreet Theatre School, Carroll College Theatre Department, the Holter Museum of Art, and Cohesion Dance Project.
