John Dendy and the Delta T record release show! What kind of music is it? A friend of the band calls it beatnik music. It’s singer-songwriter stuff with jazz instrumentation. It’s folkjazz, rootsfunk, wordplay. It’s Tom Waitsy with a New Orleans vibe.
Dendy writes thoughtful lyrics, sometimes intellectual and sometimes playful, but sometimes it’s just about the groove. He plays upright bass and baritone guitar. Jeremy Terry plays saxophones, flute, harmonica, and electric guitar, and Joey Beran plays the drums. The core trio will be joined by Justin Ringsak (Myrna Board President!) on trumpet, Kelby Sommer on violin, and Don Stone on trombone. The band joins in on harmonies and the occasional “gentlemen’s holler.” The Delta T give Dendy’s songs the strut and swagger that used to happen only in his head.
