A Wes Anderson and Roald Dahl collaboration

This collection of paper dolls is a one-of-a-kind show, uiquely suited to an it’s premier in an independent theater like the Myrna Loy!

Artist Statement:

I saw my first Wes Anderson film, Moonrise Kingdom, at the Myrna Loy Theatre when I was 15 years old. As an adolescent, there were two types of films I was commonly exposed to: kid’s movies, which I felt “too old” for, and movies for grown-ups, which included raunchy comedies and overly intellectual thrillers, neither of which I connected with. Although I loved visual art, my understanding of film as an art form was limited. Moonrise Kingdom, directed by Anderson, came into my life at the perfect time. While sitting there at the Myrna, I found myself developing the feeling that I was witnessing storytelling and art at its finest. The connection between myself and the film was almost instant. Now that I think of it, that was my first time falling in love.

After returning to my hometown of Helena in 2023, I felt my art practice began to stagnate. I decided the solution was to begin making work about things that I truly loved– regardless of whether or not the work would be considered conceptually original. As always, I returned to Wes, and found the joy of illustration and drawing rekindled by his characters.

My creative practice is driven by a desire to experiment, tinker, and play.  I consider drawing and painting to be my “home base,” and my enthusiasm for mixed media and sculptural materials often informs my drawing practice, and vice versa. I enjoy using a variety of media to explore the comical, mischievous, childlike, and tender ways in which ideas can be communicated.

Conceptually, my work centers around storytelling– the unique and endearing systems, arrangements, and relationships that comprise our personal narratives.
