Last week two of our local teaching artists, Kevin Casey and Ilgaz Ulusoy Casey, presented their gorgeous new shadow puppet show and an interactive talk-back/workshop for two lucky groups of students.
This piece was developed through The Myrna Loy’s Puppet Salon and presented at the Puppet Puppet Slam Slam! in May.
The artists visited Central Elementary School’s first graders on Tuesday, and worked with Mountainside Montessori’s Early Childhood classrooms on Wednesday.
Children were delighted with the well executed characters, from the nervous hedgehog to the friendly bear, and they were especially impressed with the spider puppet!
Multiple teachers told us afterward that it was their favorite field trip they’ve done with this age group. We can’t wait to bring this experience to more classrooms next season.
